Jo: This is Real English from BBC Learning English. I’m Jo.
  Jean: And I’m Jean.
Jo: In Real English, we look at words and phrases that you might not find in your dictionary.
  Jo: Today’s new expression is ‘whizz-kid’ – W.H.I.Z.Z. kid.
  Jean: Whizz-kid.
Jo: Well, whizz-kid is an expression that means someone who is young, successful and very good at what they do.
Jo: It’s usually used in a business environment, or in the news talking about business.
Jo: Many computer programmers are very young, and very successful, so you could call them computer whizz-kids.
  Jean: I see.
Jo: But it doesn’t have to be computers.
A: I went to the Stock Market yesterday. I couldn’t believe how young the people working there are!
  B: I know – financial whizz-kids!
Jean: How is your friend Bill, Jo?
Jo: Bill? Very well. He is working for the bank now.
Jean: But he is very young.
Jo: Yes, but he’s a financial whizz-kid. He’s brilliant with money.
Whizz-kid! Well, it looks like we are out of time.
