Helen: Hello, this is Real English from BBC Learning English, I’m Helen.

Helen: There’s no better way, Zo.
Zo: So what have you got for us today Helen?
Helen: Today’s a little bit different because we have two phrases to describe the same thing.
Zo: Sounds interesting. What is it?
Helen: Well, today’s first word is cashpoint. C.A.S.H.P.O.I.N.T.
Helen: Exactly – cash and point.
Zo: 那什么是a cashpoint?
Helen: A cashpoint is a machine outside or near a bank which allows you to take money from your account.
Helen: Exactly, put your card in, enter your secret number, and you can take out money.
Insert
A: Oh, I haven’t got any money on me.
B: Don’t worry. We can go to a cashpoint. There are lots of cashpoints on the High Street.
Zo: Now Helen, didn’t you say that we had two phrases today?
Helen: Well remembered, Zo. In the UK we have another slang name for a cashpoint. We call it a hole in the wall. Hole. In. The. Wall.
Zo: Hole in the wall.
Helen: Yes, but many people call a cashpoint a hole in the wall because they are usually built into the outer wall of a bank.
Helen: Well, it’s time to go. See you next time for more Real English…
Zo: See you next time.
